LONDON: The Pakistan High Commission in London organised a seminar/webinar to observe Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir, condemning India’s August 5, 2019, decision to revoke the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The event was attended by British parliamentarians, community leaders and social activists, who expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir and voiced concern over the human rights situation in the region. Participants called for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and proposed greater engagement with international policymakers to support the cause.

In his keynote address, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Tipu Usman, urged the international community, particularly the United Kingdom, to encourage India to reverse the measures taken on August 5, 2019, restore the rights and special status of Jammu and Kashmir, and respect the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination under UN resolutions.

Messages from the President, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out, while participants also observed a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir.
