Istanbul: The Secretary-General of the Developing-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8) held a meeting with Ambassador Dr. Ayşe Sözen Usluer, Head of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Representation Office in Istanbul, according to a post shared on the Secretary-General’s official social media account.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General expressed sincere gratitude for the sustained support extended by the Turkish Government in hosting the D-8 Secretariat in Istanbul since its establishment. He also thanked Ambassador Usluer for facilitating the presence of a large number of diplomatic missions in the city.
The two sides engaged in a wide-ranging discussion on the historical evolution, current direction and future trajectory of the D-8 organisation, with particular focus on its role as a platform for economic cooperation and integration among major developing countries.
The Secretary-General highlighted D-8’s significance in coordinating common positions among member states on core priorities at relevant international and multilateral forums, underscoring the organisation’s continuing relevance in shaping collective economic and diplomatic engagement among developing nations.
The meeting reflects the longstanding relationship between Turkiye and the D-8 Secretariat, which has been headquartered in Istanbul since the organisation’s founding. Turkiye has continued to serve as a key facilitator for the organisation’s diplomatic and institutional activities in the city.
