Japan Supports Upgrading of 20 Primary Girls’ Schools into Elementary Schools in Rural Sindh

 Islamabad: The inauguration and handover ceremony of the Project for Upgrading Primary Girls schools into Elementary Schools in Rural Areas of Sindh was held at Government Elementary School Radho Jokhio, UC Gadap, Karachi.

 The ceremony was attended by His excellency Mr. AKAMATSU Shuichi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan; Honorable Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Minister for Education & Literacy, the Government of Sindh; representatives of the School Education & Literacy Department, the Government of Sindh; and Mr. SHINOZAKI Yusuke, Chief Representative of JICA Pakistan Office, along with teachers, students, parents, colleagues of this project and other stakeholders.

 Through this project, the Government of Japan provided grant assistance of 1,686 million Japanese Yen to upgrade 20 primary girls schools into elementary schools in rural areas of Sindh. The project improved and expanded 60 classrooms, creating a safer and more conducive learning environment for girls. The upgraded schools benefit approximately 2,400 girls annually by enabling them to continue their studies within their local communities. 

In the ceremony, Ambassador AKAMATSU, reaffirmed Japans commitment to supporting Pakistans education sector, particularly by promoting opportunities for girls in undeserved areas. Ambassador AKAMATSU expressed hope that improved educational facilities would encourage more girls to contribute to their education and contribute positively to their communities.

Mr. SHINOZAKI Yusuke, Chief Representative of JICA Pakistan Office, appreciated the strong collaboration among the Government of Sindh, colleagues of this project, local community, and all stakeholders that contributed to the successful completion of the project. Mr. SHINOZAKI noted that the upgraded schools would provide female students with improved facilities and a better environment for learning and growth. 

Japan and JICA remain committed to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan and supporting inclusive and sustainable development through education.
