Spokesman Report

NEW YORK: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions during a meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The meeting brought together Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Chairman of the World Forum for Peace & Justice, Sardar Taj Khan, Senior Vice Chairman of the Kashmir Mission USA, and Ambassador Hameed Ajibaiye Opeloyeru, the Permanent Observer of the OIC to the United Nations.

During the discussion, Dr. Fai expressed concern over the human rights situation in Indian-administered Kashmir, alleging restrictions on civil liberties, demographic changes, arbitrary detentions, and limitations on political expression. He urged the international community to intensify efforts toward addressing these concerns and implementing relevant UN resolutions on Kashmir.

Sardar Taj Khan appealed to the OIC to highlight the cases of Kashmiri political prisoners, including Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Masarat Alam, Aasiya Andrabi, Sofi Fehmeeda, and Nahida Nasreen, calling for greater international attention to their cases.

Dr. Fai also commended the OIC’s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) for its continued focus on Kashmir and proposed that the commission organize formal hearings involving independent experts and Kashmiri representatives to further examine the human rights situation.

Ambassador Opeloyeru reaffirmed the OIC’s longstanding support for a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute through dialogue and in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions. He assured the delegation that their recommendations would be conveyed to OIC headquarters and considered during upcoming meetings of the OIC Kashmir Contact Group in Iraq and on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting concluded with participants emphasizing the importance of sustained international engagement, dialogue, respect for human rights, and confidence-building measures to promote a peaceful and lasting resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
