Islamabad: Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi visited Bahria University’s Islamabad Campus for the first time on September 24, meeting Rector Vice Admiral Abid Hameed to discuss further cooperation.
During the visit, the Embassy of Japan handed over around 100 books to the university under the “Read Japan Project,” launched by the Nippon Foundation in 2008 and currently administered by the Tokyo Foundation to promote global understanding of Japan through literature. The English-language collection, selected by the university, covers Japan’s history, politics, economy, security, international relations, philosophy, literature, language and culture.
Ambassador Akamatsu congratulated students and faculty, calling the collection “a bridge of knowledge” and expressing hope that students would become the next generation of bridges between Japan and Pakistan. He noted growing interest in Japan among Pakistani youth and, looking ahead to the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, said the books would offer valuable insights into Japan’s culture and development. He also highlighted Japan’s longstanding economic cooperation with Pakistan and its emphasis on education.
Rear Admiral Naeem Sarwar, Director General of Bahria University’s Islamabad Campus, thanked the Nippon Foundation and the Japanese Embassy, saying the donation would help strengthen Japan-Pakistan relations through greater student understanding of Japan.
