Islamabad:The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), UN Women Pakistan, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) launched the UN Women Gender-Responsive AI School Pakistan on 30 July 2026 in Islamabad, making Pakistan the first South Asian country to host the full national Training of Trainers track of the programme.

The initiative aims to build national capacity among policymakers, government institutions, parliamentarians, UN personnel, academia, civil society, and the private sector to promote ethical, inclusive AI while ensuring equal participation for women and girls in Pakistan’s digital transformation. Jamshed M. Kazi of UN Women Pakistan called it a regional benchmark, while KOICA’s Sodam Baek emphasized its role in building an inclusive innovation ecosystem.

The curriculum covers AI foundations, gender-responsive and ethical AI, governance, prompt engineering, AI agents, and public administration applications. The launch addresses a global gap, as only about two dozen of nearly 140 national AI policies worldwide reference gender. MoITT and UN Women signed an MoU institutionalizing the school under national ownership. Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted the government’s commitment to inclusive AI transformation.

Since 2024, the regional AI School initiative has trained over 5,000 people across Asia-Pacific, supporting SDG 5 and SDG 9 objectives.
