IG AJK Police: Rumors About Arrest of Returning Protesters ‘Baseless’

Date:

Bureau Report

RAWALAKOT: Inspector General of Police Azad Kashmir has dismissed as “completely false and baseless” rumors spread by the proscribed Awami Action Committee that youth leaving the June 9 long march protest would be arrested or shot by police and Rangers.

In a press release dated June 14, the IG said several youth from Bhimber, Mirpur and other districts, disappointed by the committee’s “criminal behavior and extremist mindset”, now wish to return home. He assured they are “respectable citizens”.

To facilitate their safe return, police are establishing Facilitation Centers in Rawalakot. Youth can contact these centers and leave without any hindrance, the statement added.
