BEIJING : Pakistan has secured a bronze medal in the Kabaddi men’s team final at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China marking their third medal of the Games after winning bronze in women’s individual shooting and silver in men’s team squash.

Previously, Pakistan’s kabaddi team won the bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jarkata.

The kabaddi competition at the Asian Games is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and fiercely contested events. Teams from across the continent gather to demonstrate their prowess in the traditional South Asian sport, which combines elements of wrestling and tag. Known for their agility, power and strategic play, Pakistan’s kabaddi team showcased their expertise, broadened knowledge and gained experience throughout the tournament, CEN reported on Sunday.

The journey to the medal was not an easy one for the Pakistani team. They face tough opponents from countries such as India, Iran and South Korea, all of which boast formidable squads. During the match, Pakistan suffered 12 all-outs and failed to score a single all-out point against their arch-rivals India.

However, the Pakistani kabaddi players showed exceptional skill and determination with grace and resilience. The Pakistani athletes took the opportunity to express their gratitude and admiration for the host country, China.

They spoke highly of the warm welcome and the remarkable hospitality extended to all participants and visitors during their stay in Hangzhou. Athletes praised the seamless organization, state-of-the-art facilities, and the extraordinary efforts made by the Chinese organizers to ensure a memorable experience for everyone involved.

The athletes’ positive remarks about China reflect the bonds formed between nations through the power of sports. Team manager Rana Nabeel Ahmad said the Asia Games Hangzhou provided Pakistan with a platform to improve their weaknesses for the next international assignment.

As the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou Kabaddi draws to a close, Yousaf Anjum, News attache appointed by the Pakistani Olympic Association (POA), acknowledged the support and guidance provided by the Pakistan Olympic Association and other sports authorities in nurturing and developing the athletes’ potential. He expressed his gratitude to the coaches, trainers, and officials who played a vital role in preparing the athletes for the Asia Games.

He added that “Pakistan and China have their own advantages in different Asian Games events. By exchanging knowledge, expertise, and training methods, we can enhance our athletes’ capabilities and achieve greater success in the Asia Games.”
