Says mental slavery far more dangerous than physical slavery

JHELUM:  Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday has said that there is no bigger curse for a country than giving the power to a corrupt leader.  Mental slavery is far more dangerous than physical slavery, said Prime Minister. Addressing the ceremony after inaugurating academic blocks of Al-Qadir University here the premier said that a convicted person was invited at a ceremony as chief guest. The society which doesn’t condemn corruption faces devastation, he added.  PM Imran said that no country can be progressed without morality.

“Unfortunately, due to colonialism, Muslims suffered from mental slavery around the world,” he said.  The prime minister emphasised on speaking the truth and dispensing justice. “Speaking truth was a quality of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) before he was appointed a Messenger.”

PM Imran Khan said he had always aimed at creating institutions in Pakistan that would implement Islam in its true spirit.

He spoke about education at length, lamenting that there were no universities researching the lives of the Muslim leaders, warriors, scholars and reformers.  “Islam and Science were both working alongside each other,” he said. “There was harmony between them. Read Al-Biruni and others, they had a strong connection to Allah,” he added.

He said the universities have a role to play for character building of students in the light of Seera-e-Tayyeba. Unless we practice Seerat-un-Nabi Sallallaho Alaihe Wa Alayhee Wassalam, we cannot attain the status dreamt by Allama Muhammad Iqbal, he stated. The premier said we have to act on the rules set by Riyasat-e-Madina for the development of the country, adding that nations who follow these rules will never face any challenge.

It is to be mentioned here that the university, in these blocks, will provide world level education facilities for boys and girls in Islamic teachings, mysticism and modern scientific research. The educational programme of Al-Qadir University will also focus on building leadership qualities in the students as well as their character in the light of Seerat-e-Tayyeba. The existing capacity of the academic blocks is five hundred students, which will be enhanced in phases.

Later, while presiding over a meeting to review the current stock and prices of fertilizer in the country, Prime Minister Khan directed the authorities concerned to continue legal action against those involved in hoarding and illegal profiteering. Federal Ministers Asad Umar, Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Syed Fakhar Imam, Advisor on Finance Shaukat Tarin and senior officers were in attendance.

The Prime Minister was told that an online portal has been developed to monitor the supply of fertilizers, enabling the provincial and district administrations to keep a check on the movement of fertilizers. Chief Secretary Punjab told the meeting that in order to check the hoarding of fertilizers, a number of steps have been taken since November 13 last, including the registration of 347 First Information Reports (FIRs), 244 arrests, 21,111 inspections, sealing of 480 godowns, and fines of Rs. 27.9 million.

Besides, it was told that control rooms have been established in every district to receive complaints about the fertilizers’ shortage, hoarding and profiteering. Check-posts have also been established to curb inter-provincial smuggling of fertilizers. The meeting was further told that the laws relating to hoarding and profiteering were also being amended under which the person giving information about the hoarding will be rewarded in proportion to the confiscated goods.

The Prime Minister directed to continue to take legal action against the elements involved in hoarding and profiteering. Following the last week’s direction of Prime Minister Imran Khan to take measures against hoarding, the price of fertilizer has registered an average decrease of Rs400 per bag.
