ISLAMABAD, March 9, 2021: Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Enforcement Coordination Committee meeting was held here in the IPO Head Office.  Mujeeb Ahmed Khan, Chairman, IPO-Pakistan chaired the meeting.
Addressing the meeting,  Mujeeb Ahmed Khan termed counterfeiting and piracy a crime against innovation and creativity and expressed the resolve that the issue would be dealt relentlessly and all out efforts would be made for the development of genuine businesses.
He said that there is a need to develop close cooperation between IPO and concerned Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs). With the effective coordination issue of piracy and counterfeiting could be overcome, he added.
The meeting was informed that IP Tribunals are fully functional and anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting cells have been established at the offices of IPO-Pakistan for coordination with LEAs.
Earlier, Meesaq Arif, Executive Director, IPO-Pakistan gave a detailed presentation on IPR enforcement. He apprised the meeting that capacity building of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) under Economic Outreach Initiative (EOI).
The meeting was attended by  Sohail Asif, Director General, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI),  Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, Director, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and representatives of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), Pakistan Customs and Islamabad Police. Nasir Mehmood, Director, IPO,  Saifullah Khan, Deputy Director and Mr. Mujtaba Kamal, Deputy Director IPO-Pakistan also attended the meeting.
