Islamabad : Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi held a meeting today with H.E Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand who is currently on a visit to Pakistan to attend the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. This was his first visit to Pakistan since assuming office.

Foreign Minister Qureshi welcomed Deputy Minister Pramudwinai to Pakistan and appreciated Thailand’s engagement with OIC. Noting the 70 years of establishment of diplomatic relations, the two foreign ministers reviewed the state of bilateral ties and expressed satisfaction over the trajectory of bilateral cooperation. Foreign minister Qureshi underscored Pakistan’s commitment to forge a broad- based relationship with Thailand anchored in strong economic, political and cultural cooperation.

The Foreign Minister shared government’s policies to facilitate religious tourism in Pakistan and invited people of Thailand to visit Buddhist sites in Pakistan. The two foreign Ministers also exchanged views on various regional and global issues, including situation in Afghanistan and the wider region. Foreign Minister Qureshi highlighted the need for comprehensive regional approaches to develop a coordinated response to emerging global challenges.

He also underlined the importance of ASEAN in Asia-Pacific and Pakistan’s interest in reinforcing its engagement with ASEAN. Foreign Minister Qureshi also briefed the Deputy Prime Minister on the grave violations of human rights and illegal demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and stressed the importance of peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute for sustainable peace and stability in South Asia. Noting the importance of regular high-level interaction between the two countries, the two foreign ministers agreed to remain in close contact to maintain the momentum in bilateral relations.
