Federal Minister Narcotics called on Egyptian Ambassador

While discussing on the illicit drug control, Federal Minster Azam Swati said that the problem of drugs is more related to mindset than law and order. He said that the Ministry of Narcotics Control is working proactively on Drug Demand Reduction and is particularly focusing on the youth.

Federal Minister Azam Swati said synthetic drugs are the biggest challenge. There are over 500 synthetic drugs, which are sometimes camouflaged in the form of confectioneries and other food items.

Federal Minister Azam Swati said the Ministry is making all-out effort to make the drug control better on the borders, so that no illicit drug can come into Pakistan. All the LEAs are on board in this regard, he said. Federal Minister Azam Swati said the government has successfully reduced the production of drugs in the country and now it is negligible.

“We have achieved great success in the recent past”, Federal Minister Azam Swati said. He told the Egyptian Ambassador that the information-sharing mechanism among the LEAs and with other countries has been improved, due to which we were able to bring drug traffickers and peddlers to the book. He said that his aim is to eliminate this menace at its source.

During the meeting, Egyptian Ambassador expressed his desire to improve collaboration and coordination between the two countries. Federal Minister Azam Swati said that the MoU between Pakistan and Egypt on drug control will be revisited and will be improved according to the need of the times.

Federal Minster Azam Swati said that Pakistan and Egypt enjoy close fraternal relations deeply rooted in our shared religion, values and culture. “Egyptian people are very close to my heart”, he said. He expressed that in his opinion we are failing because of disunity among the Muslim countries.
