Peshawar :Bus Rapid Transit an initiative of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the best interest of the public to serve them with a state-of-the-art public transport system. This system came to resolve all pertaining issues to public transport. BRT Peshawar is facilitating thousands and thousands of citizens on daily basis. The project with environment-friendly buses is the first of its kind in Pakistan. The project was inaugurated by Worthy Prime Minister Pakistan Mr. Imran Khan on 13th of August 2020. BRT serving uninterrupted service to the people of Peshawar 16 hours a day from 6 am to 10 pm with a headway timing of 2 to 4 minutes. With the most economical fare for the public from all walks of life take Rs.10 for the first 5 kilometers and Rs. 5 for the other 5 kilometers. Since the commencement of the project, nearly more than 600,000 Zu cards have been distributed among the people out of which 400,000 Zu cards were distributed free of cost. In addition to 27 kilometers, main corridor 4 direct/feeder routes are also operational to facilitate the people from every nook and corner of the city. BRT Peshawar is not only convenient, reliable, safe, and economical service for the people but also contributing a lot in social behavioral change for which department acknowledges the role of public towards the system. According to the BRT Project scrapping and compensation of old buses and wagons of the city is going on so that the public can rid of the old orthodox and feeble transport system. In wake of COVID-19 TransPeshawar has enforced SOPs for all commuters to travel in BRT. During the closure of educational institutes regarding COVID-19 even then more than 130,000 people use the service on daily basis. Since the inauguration of the project, more than 8 million people have traveled on BRT which is a self-evident and tangible example of public endorsement of the project. In order to further facilitate the citizens of Peshawar department is working tirelessly on the Zu mobile application which is near to its completion and soon will be launched. Bus Rapid Transit is a great relief to each and every individual of the city but especially for females, people with disabilities, and kids who can now travel safely without any fear. TransPeshawar is also conducting awareness-raising activities i.e. a joint activity with Ombudsperson, Sports department, etc. Spokesperson TransPeshawar stated that the department is working day and night to provide the best transportation services to the citizen of Peshawar. He added that without the cooperation of the public it is next to impossible to maintain the service quality. He stated that people must comply with all COVID-19 SOP`s and can dial the TransPeshawar helpline 091-111-477-477 for registration of their complaint or suggestion.
