ILO-Backed Initiative to Help Pakistani Firms Meet International Market Demands

Date:

Spokesman Report

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan : Pakistan is taking an important step towards making business compliance simpler, supply chains more transparent and enterprises more competitive through the development of a National Digital Compliance & Traceability Platform. The platform will help businesses navigate compliance requirements more efficiently, strengthen responsible business conduct and support enterprise formalization, while helping businesses respond to evolving international market requirements. Its development was advanced through a national multi-stakeholder consultation convened by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the National Compliance Centre (NCC), Ministry of Commerce.

The consultation brought together senior representatives from government institutions, employers’ organizations, industry and technical partners to review the proposed digital platform, validate its functional requirements and discuss institutional roles and governance arrangements. Participants also explored opportunities to connect the platform with existing national digital systems, helping to shape a practical and user-centred solution that meets the needs of enterprises while strengthening coordination among regulatory institutions.

Once operational, the National Digital Compliance & Traceability Platform will provide businesses with a single digital gateway for managing compliance requirements and strengthening supply chain traceability. By reducing administrative burdens and improving access to reliable compliance information, the platform will support evidence-based policymaking, enhance transparency across value chains and promote responsible business conduct.

The initiative forms part of the ILO’s broader support to the Government of Pakistan and industry to strengthen enterprise formalization, improve compliance and promote sustainable supply chains. It also supports Pakistan’s efforts to respond to evolving international market expectations, including those linked to the European Union’s GSP+ framework and emerging digital product traceability requirements.

Geir Tonstol, Country Director of the ILO in Pakistan stated, The National Digital Compliance & Traceability Platform is an important step towards helping enterprises navigate compliance more efficiently while strengthening transparency and accountability across supply chains. By supporting enterprise formalization and improving supply chain sustainability, this initiative will help Pakistani businesses respond to evolving international market requirements while promoting decent work and sustainable economic growth. The ILO is proud to partner with the Government of Pakistan and national stakeholders in advancing this important initiative.”

The consultation reaffirmed the shared commitment of government institutions, employers’ organizations, the private sector and development partners to work together in building a modern, integrated digital compliance ecosystem that promotes sustainable economic growth, facilitates market access and strengthens trust throughout supply chains.

The National Digital Compliance & Traceability Platform is expected to be the first integrated system of its kind in the region. By simplifying compliance processes, improving transparency across supply chains and supporting responsible business practices, it will help strengthen Pakistan’s position as a competitive and trusted trading partner in global markets.
