Sharif and Xi Vow to Elevate “All-Weather” Ties to New Strategic Era

BEIJING:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with President Xi Jinping in Beijing, marking the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations. Both leaders agreed to enhance their historical partnership, transforming it into a new phase of strategic, practical, and future-oriented cooperation. The meeting, attended by high-level Pakistani officials including the Army Chief, reaffirmed the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” as central to Pakistan’s foreign policy. Prime Minister Sharif lauded the “iron-clad friendship” and its growing significance in the current global landscape. He reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for China on key issues like the One China Principle and acknowledged China’s consistent backing for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and economic stability. Sharif also admired President Xi’s leadership in Zhejiang Province and his role in China’s rise as a global power. He commended China’s support for regional peace, endorsing Xi’s four-point proposal, and highlighted their bilateral cooperation as a stabilizing force. The Pakistani Prime Minister expressed support for Xi’s global initiatives, including the Belt and Road Initiative, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity. He pledged to deepen strategic coordination, advance the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) with a focus on high-quality development, and align China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Pakistan’s “Uraan Pakistan” initiative. This aims to boost cooperation in industrialization, connectivity, science and technology, agriculture, clean energy, and digital transformation. The inclusion of Pakistani astronauts in China’s space program was cited as an example of this strengthening cooperation. President Xi Jinping described the China-Pakistan friendship as “unbreakable,” built on mutual understanding and trust. He emphasized that China will always prioritize its relationship with Pakistan, irrespective of international shifts.
