London:In a significant ruling, the UK High Court has declared the ban on the activist group Palestine Action under terrorism legislation unlawful. However, the court clarified that the ban will remain temporarily in place until the next hearing scheduled for 20 February.

The three senior judges overseeing the case noted that while some of the group’s activities may have been criminal in nature, they did not meet the high legal threshold required to classify it as a terrorist organisation.

The UK government expressed strong disappointment over the ruling and announced its intention to appeal. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood described the decision as “concerning” from a national security perspective.Meanwhile, the  Metropolitan Police stated that it will continue to gather evidence regarding the group’s activities and its supporters, though immediate arrests are not planned.

Huda Ammori co-founder of Palestine Action, welcomed the ruling, calling it a major victory for fundamental human rights and freedom of expression.
