Pakistan and Libya agree to strengthen defence ties

Islamabad: Field Marshal Khalifa Abu-al-Qasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, on Monday called on Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Force Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, accompanied him.

The two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with a focus on regional security dynamics and professional military cooperation. They agreed to enhance security collaboration between the armed forces of Pakistan and Libya.

Field Marshal Asim Munir welcomed the Libyan delegation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for peace, stability, and institutional development in Libya.

The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries, the ISPR said.

Earlier, on arrival at Noor Khan Airbase, Field Marshal Haftar was received by Field Marshal Asim Munir. The Libyan commander later paid homage at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and laid a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial at GHQ.
