I am writing to bring attention to the pressing issue of electricity prices in our country. As you may know, the current prices are unsustainable for many households and businesses. It is imperative that we demand a uniform electricity price throughout Pakistan.
Our country has the capacity to generate over 45,000 megawatts of electricity, exceeding our requirements. However, the transmission lines can only handle 22-25,000 megawatts. To address this issue, I propose that the government engage in talks with local and public independent power producers (IPP’s) to find a solution.
Furthermore, I suggest privatizing electricity distribution companies and issuing licenses to additional companies in each region. This will encourage competition and drive down prices.
I also take issue with the recent announcement by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, providing electricity price relief exclusively for Punjab. This move will only create despair in other regions. I demand that the government provide relief for all Pakistanis, regardless of their province.
I urge the Prime Minister to take immediate action and announce a nationwide reduction of RS.20 per unit in electricity prices. This is the only way to provide genuine relief to the people of Pakistan. Let us come together to demand a fair and uniform electricity price for all.
