Syed Ali Geelani was the symbol of Kashmiri freedom movement. Geelani always raised the slogan that we are Pakistanis and Pakistan is ours. This slogan is reverberating in every part of the world. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on first death anniversary of the great Kashmir leader, said that the struggle of Syed Ali Gilani was a golden chapter in the history of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference as well as the Kashmir freedom movement. The PM said that late Syed Ali Gilani was a symbol of Kashmir freedom and the title of “Baba-e-Hurriyat” (father of freedom movement) by the Kashmiris was in fact the recognition of his historic struggle. “Syed Ali Gilani was not merely an individual rather a movement and a mission with the slogan of ‘Kashmir to become Pakistan,” he remarked. Therefore, India must remember that by snatching the mortal remains of late Ali Gilani, India could not take away the Kashmiris’ passion for freedom. “The people of Pakistan and Kashmir salute Syed Ali Gilani. His slogan “We are Pakistani and Pakistan is ours” still echoes across the world,” the PM commented. The prime minister said that Syed Ali Gilani remained as relevant to the freedom struggle today as he had been in life. Syed Ali Geelani was a great freedom fighting leader and a revolutionist. His political struggle has always been praised and will always be remembered by the Kashmiri people and the worldwide. His motive isn’t left behind but everything seems deserted without his voice. His absence can’t be filled but his efforts and struggle will continue to lead the Kashmiris people in their just struggle for freedom from Indian occupation. His greatest slogan of all time, “We are Pakistani and Pakistan is ours”, is seen as the symbol of love for Pakistan and is still used as a slogan on various protests by Kashmiri people. With the aim set by a great freedom leader Syed Ali Gilani, Kashmiris will win their right to self-determination and ultimate freedom from Indian clutches. Indian government used all forms of atrocities like a long period of over 12 years of house arrest against him, but he didn’t fall behind. It is because of his efforts that all the Kashmiri people are standing behind his motive to take freedom from the Indian oppression. He told the world that our efforts will never be halted, until we achieve the right of self-determination and freedom. Syed Ali Geelani and his motive will always be in our heart, and with the blessing of Almighty Allah we will achieve it very soon. Today, his enthusiasm was anticipated in the Kashmiri youth, when they were out on the streets of Srinagar despite of large contingent of Indian army. Kashmiri people want solution of Kashmir dispute in line with the United Nations resolutions. The UN, OIC and Amnesty International must take concrete steps for the resolution of this outstanding dispute. The Kashmiri people will continue fighting against Indian oppression, until they achieve their right of self-determination.
