ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Wednesday said that Pakistan extended complete assistance in the evacuation of diplomatic staff of various counties, personnel of international institutions and media representative from Kabul after the Taliban takeover of Afghan capital. “Today, the world is appreciating Pakistan for its active, functional and positive role in the evacuation process”, he added.
The Foreign Minister expressed these views during a meeting with Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Air Marshal Arshad Malik here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Secretary Sohail Mehmood was also present in the meeting during which the matters relating to the assistance extended by Pakistan in the evacuation process from Afghanistan were discussed.
The Foreign Minister felicitated the CEO of national flag carrier in continuing the flight operation in hard circumstance and evacuating a large of foreign nationals through PIA.
FM Qureshi has urged the international community to remain conscious of the humanitarian assistance and prevent an economic collapse in Afghanistan.
Addressing the joint press stakeout with his Dutch counterpart Sigrid Kaag in Islamabad on Wednesday night, the minister said evacuation has almost been done and we will facilitate further if there are some people to leave Afghanistan.
“We are looking at the next phase that what kind of government is formed in Afghanistan, how inclusive it is and how we react to it,” Shah Mahmood Qureshi said. He also said both Pakistan and Netherlands share convergence of views on many issues. Speaking on the occasion, the Netherlands foreign minister said her country has long time been a contributor to the prospects and growth of the people of Afghanistan. She said Netherlands
generally contributes around 60 million euros as humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan through the United States or Non-Governmental Organizations and it will continue to do so in future as well.
Foreign Minister Qureshi said Pakistan is desirous of a coordinated strategy on Afghanistan. Talking to the media persons here at the Parliament House on Wednesday after meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, he said. Pakistan’s positive role in the
Afghan peace process and its efforts for humanitarian assistance and evacuation of foreign nationals from Afghanistan is being appreciated. He said the standing committee also commended Pakistan’s role vis-a-vis Afghanistan
