Islamabad :Syed Fakhar Imam, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research has termed white fly resistant cotton varieties of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur a breakthrough and a great success. He said this during his visit to cotton fields of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. He felicitated Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chairman Plant Breeding and Generics Department on this success paving the way for cotton crop revival in the country. After addressing the farmers in main auditorium at farmer convention, Syed Fakhar Imam visited along with Khalid Abdullah cotton commissioner, Prof. Dr.Asif Ali Vice chancellor MNS University of Agriculture Multan, Khalid khokhar President Pakistan Kissan Ittehad, Director Agriculture and cotton growers Tasawar Hussain Chatta, Ghulam Abbas, Liaqat Ali , Muhammad Ejaz and Zahid Kamboh who verified the statement of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal about cotton genotypes for whitefly tolerant. Syed Fakhar Imam stated that it is a great miracle and breakthrough in whitefly management. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal stated that demonstration trial will be carried out at 50 different locations in Punjab at farmer field as directed by Engineer Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob Vice Chancellor Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
