TASHKENT: The voter turnout at Sunday’s presidential elections in Uzbekistan exceeded 70% at 17:30 local, Bakhrom Kuchkarov, deputy chairperson of Uzbekistan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) said. “More than 15 million people had cast their votes by 17:30 local time.
The voter turnout exceeded 70%,” he said, adding that the CEC was monitoring the voting process and registered a number of violations. Uzbekistan is holding presidential elections on Sunday.
Five candidates, including incumbent President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, are vying for the presidential office. The voting (18:00 Moscow time). The country has around 19.9 million eligible voters. According to the CEC data, the voter turnout exceeded 33% by 11:00 a.m. local time (09:00 a.m. Moscow time), which was enough to recognize the voting as valid.
The CIS observers (Commonwealth of Independent States) have not yet registered any violations in the presidential elections in Uzbekistan on Sunday, CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev told journalists. “In general, it makes a good impression, everything goes smoothly. The voter turnover is high. We have not registered any violations yet,” he said.
During the election campaign, which for the first time involves candidates from five political parties, no party recorded violations.
The total number of registered voters is 19 million 859 thousand 127. The first polling station for the election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan opened on 24 October at 04:00 Tashkent time in the cities of Tokyo, Japan, Seoul–South Korea.
And the elections of the President of Uzbekistan will end on 25 October at 06:00 Tashkent time in New York. As previously reported, at the polling stations for the election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, conditions were created for early voting of voters who cannot be at their place of residence on election day. On 14-20 October 2021, 421,618 citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in early voting at polling stations organized in our country and abroad. In particular, 301,094 of them voted in Uzbekistan, and 120,524–abroad. Early voting was suspended on 20 October at 19:00.
The elections will be monitored by a total of 971 international observers, including from about 20 reputable international organizations, in particular 631 international observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly , the Cooperation Council of Turkic- peaking States, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international organizations, as well as 340 international observers from almost 50 countries.
