The next presidential election will be held in Tajikistan on October 11.
AZERTAC (Azerbaijan News Agency) reports with reference to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Tajikistan that 68 constituencies have been established in the country.
Voting started at 6:00 in 3375 polling stations. About 4.9 million voters were included in the voter lists. Emomali Rahmon represents the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan, Rustam Latifzoda represents the Agrarian Party of Tajikistan, Abdukhalim Gafforzoda represents the Socialist Party of Tajikistan, Rustam Rahmonzoda represents the Party of Economic Reforms of Tajikistan and Miroj Abdulloev represents the Communist Party of Tajikistan.
This is the sixth presidential election since Tajikistan’s independence. Incumbent President Emomali Rahmon of the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan won four of them.
Under Tajik law, elections are considered valid when 50 percent of voters go to the polls. The president is elected for 7 years. Preliminary results will be announced within 24 hours after the elections.
