Islamabad:   Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), QAU, in collaboration with Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) organized the inauguration ceremony of Sustainable Development Goals’ Wall at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University and Syed Kausar Abbas, Executive Director, SSDO inaugurated the Sustainable Development Goals’ Wall in front of Central Library. The ceremony was started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Dr. Zia ur Rehman.

While addressing the ceremony Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Federal Minister for Science and Technology said in developed countries universities have changed the landscape of the society by research and innovation. He said technology has changed the demands of the job market. The Minister urged academia to educate and equip the youth with the skills that new emerging fields demand.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University, welcomed the Federal Minister and distinguished guests. He said the scientific community at Quaid-i-Azam University has actively engaged in relevant research. He also lauded the efforts of the organizers and said the initiative will help to create awareness and coordinate the efforts with academia and youth for achieving sustainable development goals set by the United Nations.

Syed Kausar Abbas, Executive Director, SSDO briefed the audience regarding the initiative.  He said the purpose to launch the SDGs wall was to educate the students about the 17 SDGs recognized by the United Nations. “The students and the faculty members will be engaged in the research and advocacy of the SDGs with an aim to involve them in the development process of the country and to achieve the global targets” said Syed Kausar Abbas. The similar walls will soon be launched in other public and private universities as well, he added. Dr. Nausheen Hamid (MNA), Ms. Mausarrat Jamshed Cheema (MPA), Prof. Dr. Muhamamd Siddiq, Prof. Tasawar Hayat (H.,I,S.,I.,T., I), Prof. Dr. Amin Badshah, Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq AhmadDr. Hazir Ullah, Director Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) and a large number of faculty members and students attended the event
