This year marks the 72nd anniversary of the 1952 revolution in Egypt, a revolution that ushered a new era not only in Egypt’s history, but also the history of the Arab World and the Middle East.
Over the past 72 years, and despite the unfavorable regional surroundings, Egypt has moved ahead, faced and successfully overcame various internal and external challenges, and, as it was always the case, followed its own nationally-charted path for political, economic and social development…. And today, Egypt is transforming itself yet again.
Egypt is currently pursuing a highly ambitious developmental and economic reform program. This program has succeeded in changing the shape of the country in the last decade, benefiting from unprecedented modernization plans of the infrastructure. “Egypt is literally becoming a huge construction site with a wide variety of mega projects being undertaken all throughout the country”.
Improving transportation networks; expanding power generating capability; the Suez Canal Economic Zone; and a new administrative capital, are some highlights of these mega-projects.
Bilateral relations between Egypt and Pakistan
Egypt was one of the first countries to recognize Pakistan’s independence and exchanged immediately the diplomatic representation with it in January 1948. Egyptian-Pakistani relations are characterized by distinction, stability and cooperation in various fields, in addition to the complete convergence in the policies and goals of defending the issues of the Islamic nation and developing countries in the Multilateral international forums, which always witness wide-ranging agreement on international issues of common interest as well as the mutual support for the candidatures of both countries to important international posts.
In line with the traditions that characterized our relations for many decades, Egypt is currently placing the strengthening of bilateral relations with Pakistan as one of its main foreign policy goals, and both countries are determined to work closely on reinforcement of our bilateral relations, as well diversifying, and expanding, the aspects of cooperation to benefit from the huge potentials both countries have, and the excellent political relations…. There is always a room to improve the ties and links that gather us…. And there is a great potential for investment and cooperation in several fields such as trade, tourism, pharmaceuticals, food production, agriculture, and industry, especially that both countries have large markets and strong industrial and services sectors….
The bond that gathers the peoples of Egypt and Pakistan is solid, ranging from culture and religion to sharing a similar scheme of values and principles… both countries own a unified vision regarding the importance of South-South cooperation, combatting terrorism and radicalization, and defending the rights of oppressed peoples.
