KARACHI: Yang Yundong, Consul General of China in Karachi, delivered an insightful address at the “Meet the Media on China 75” event, organized by the Chinese Consulate in Karachi to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Held at the consulate on Wednesday, the event brought together diplomats, academics, and media representatives to celebrate China’s transformative journey and its deep-rooted partnership with Pakistan.

Yang reaffirmed China’s position as a developing country committed to addressing these challenges through peaceful development and inclusive growth. Yang underscored China’s role as a global leader in poverty alleviation, contributing to 70% of global poverty reduction, and its steadfast advocacy for multilateralism and sustainable development.

Speaking on China-Pakistan relations, Yang highlighted the “iron-clad friendship” between the two nations, describing it as a strategic partnership rooted in trust and mutual respect. He emphasized the significance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has entered a new phase of development. Key projects such as the Gwadar Port, ML-1 railway upgradation, and the Karakoram Highway expansion remain central to this collaboration. Yang also pointed to new opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, mining, IT, energy, and socio-economic sectors.

He praised the completion of the New Gwadar International Airport and pledged continued support to resolve power and water shortages in Gwadar. To further enhance bilateral trade and investment, Yang urged Pakistan to improve its business environment and create favorable policies for Chinese investors, particularly within Special Economic Zones under CPEC.

On security matters, Yang called on Pakistan to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects, emphasizing that a secure environment is essential for advancing bilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan in combating terrorism.

Yang concluded by highlighting the role of media in fostering people-to-people ties and mutual understanding between the two countries. He encouraged Pakistani media to report positively on China’s achievements, foreign policy, and collaborative projects under CPEC, while promoting cultural exchanges.

The event also featured speeches by Dr. Junaid Ahmad and Dr. Muhammad Ali Shaikh, who highlighted China’s development trajectory and shared their perspectives on its future. XieShuye from the Chinese Consulate moderated the ceremony, ensuring its smooth flow.

Yang’s address and the event as a whole reflected the shared vision of China and Pakistan for a stronger, mutually beneficial partnership. With continued efforts, both nations aim to deepen cooperation and build a closer community with a shared future.
