Islamabad – “Journalists educate and inform the society about what is happening around and in the world and spread awareness among different segments on the backgrounders and future impacts of issues and policies. Therefore it is very central and important for them to keep them refreshed with the latest information and how information can be collected from different sources including the libraries and journals already published on the required topics.” These views came from the trainers and participants of a workshop on “Media Literacy” held here for journalists of print media. The workshop was organized at Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Center (PASTIC) Qauid i Azam University Campus in collaboration with “Pakistan in the World” Media Group and Community Development Council (CDC). Minister Counselor of Indonesia Embassy B. Dharmawan was Chief Guest. He distributed certificates among the participants.
DG PASTIC Dr Mohammad Akram Sheikh, Director Syed Habib Akhtar Jaffri, Saif Ullah, Editor Tazeen Akhtar and Chairperson CDC Meera’n Malik were also present. Syed Habib Akhtar Jaffri and Saif Ullah delivered lectures on the subject in which they highlighted the value of information and emphasized on the need of evaluating the information as it is correct or not. They elaborated that the information should be gathered from reliable sources and counter checked with different sources before it is published or aired. DG PASTIC, Dr Mohammad Akram Sheikh briefed the participants about the center and its contribution in supporting the knowledge seekers and research scholars of the country. He noted that journalists are always welcome to the center for any help and guidance regarding producing meaningful stories in the vast interest of the country and the society. Minister counselor B. Dharmawan distributed the certificates among the participants. He appreciated the organizers for spreading awareness and equipping the journalists community with the latest techniques and ethics of journalism. PASTIC and Pakistan in the World will organize more workshops on the same subject for journalists of electronic media, editors and women journalists as well.
