London:The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has announced the appointment of Barrister Shafaqat Ali Sandhu, Solicitor (England & Wales and the Republic of Ireland), Barrister (UR), and Advocate High Courts of Pakistan, as Chairman of its Foreign Affairs Committee for the term 2025–2026.
The appointment was formally confirmed through an official memorandum issued by Mr. Farukh Ilyas Cheema, Secretary of the LHCBA. According to the notification, Barrister Sandhu was selected in recognition of his distinguished legal credentials, extensive international exposure, and cross-jurisdictional expertise.
In his new role, Barrister Sandhu will oversee the Bar’s international portfolio, including engagement with foreign bar associations, global legal institutions, and professional bodies. His responsibilities include facilitating cross-border cooperation, strengthening institutional partnerships, representing the LHCBA at international legal forums, and advising on matters concerning foreign legal affairs and international professional relations.Expressing gratitude on his appointment, Barrister Sandhu said he was “honoured to undertake this responsibility and committed to advancing the Association’s international outreach in accordance with its constitutional mandate and professional objectives.” He also thanked Secretary Farukh Ilyas Cheema for the confidence placed in him and reiterated his commitment to expanding the Bar’s global presence through collaborative international initiatives.The LHCBA, one of Pakistan’s most prominent and historic legal institutions, continues to enhance its international engagement strategy. The appointment of a multi-jurisdictional legal professional is widely viewed as a strategic step toward strengthening the Bar’s outreach and representation within the global legal community.
