Assures modernization, improvement of Balochistan road infrastructure

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has stated that the government is working for the betterment of public welfare and not for personal gain in a review conference of Ravi urban development and Central Business District project on Thursday. Under the presidency of PM, a review meeting was held on the progress report of Ravi urban development and Central Business District project.

“Ravi urban development and Central Business District projects are important for the country. The government is working for the welfare of public and not for personal gain. These projects are necessary to reduce congestion and pollution in Lahore,” stated the PM. He further said that, “Action will be taken against the officials responsible for not completing the targets of the project on time. The government has launched historically significant construction projects;” adding that, “In the past 20 years, no other government has shown any importance to those projects.”

In a meeting with Chairman of Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Prime Minister Imran Khan assured that the government would modernize and improve the basic road infrastructure of Balochistan to ensure progress and prosperity in the province. The prime minister said the construction of different roads particularly the western route under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor was a major breakthrough. He hoped that this would usher the new era of social as well as economic improvement in the province. During the meeting, they also discussed the dualization of Karachi-Quetta RCD Road. The prime minister also offered Fateha for Salar Sanjrani, the brother of Senate Chairman, expressed deep grief and prayed for peace of the departed soul.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had a telephonic conversation with Bill Gates, Co-Chairman of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation here on Thursday and discussed matters of shared concern including Polio eradication in Pakistan and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. He in particular lauded the work of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Pakistan.

Bill Gates appreciated the recent efforts made by Pakistan to eradicate Polio, reinforced his commitment to Polio eradication; acknowledged Pakistan’s successful Covid-19 vaccination campaign; and assured of Gates Foundation’s continued support. The Prime Minister and Bill Gates agreed to continue working together on the shared objectives. Prime Minister Imran Khan directed officials to complete the ongoing water reservoir projects within the stipulated time. He said it was very important to timely complete the projects of water reservoirs for maintaining the country’s food security.

The Prime Minister was chairing the review meeting here on a coordinated strategy to improve the system of irrigation in the country.The meeting was briefed, on a sustainable and durable system for equitable distribution of water in the provinces, strategy for supplying canal water to the agricultural lands without wastage, an effective system for stopping theft of water and on projects to make barren lands cultivable by expanding the system of irrigation.

The participants were told that for the first time in the history of the country, the present government was ensuring implementation of the projects of storing river water and this decade was named as the decade of dams. Besides, steps were taken to stop theft of water in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Further, it was told that under the vision of prime minister for giving priority to food security, the government was working on implementation of the agricultural transformation plan.

Advisor to Prime Minister for National Security Dr Moeed Yusuf, Vice Chairman Planning Commission and high level officers attended the meeting. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan and provincial officers were also present in the meeting through video link.
