ISLAMABAD— In a solemn and well-attended ceremony, the Embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Islamabad marked the 113th birth anniversary of the Great Leader, His Excellency Kim Il Sung. The event brought together a diverse group of diplomats, parliamentarians, scholars, and media representatives.
Ambassador H.E. Mr. Choe Chang Man delivered an address highlighting the historic and enduring ties between North Korea and Pakistan. He emphasized the shared values of sovereignty, independence, and mutual respect, stating that bilateral cooperation across various sectors will continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.
“The friendship between our nations is rooted in principles of mutual support and respect,” said Ambassador Choe. “We aim to enhance these relations through sustained dialogue and collaboration.” Ambassador Choe, accompanied by his spouse and senior embassy officials, warmly welcomed the attendees. Distinguished guests included Senator Jan Muhammad Buladi, Senator Amarjeet Malhotra, MNA Phelee Baloch, MPA Baz Jan Baloch, Mr. Javed Ansari, President of the Pakistan-Korea Friendship & Solidarity Committee, Ambassador Khalid Mehmood, Chairman of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, and Mr. Muhammad Amjad Aziz Qazi, Director General for East Asia & Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During his remarks, Ambassador Choe paid tribute to the legacy of Kim Il Sung, acknowledging his foundational role in the creation of the DPRK and his lifelong commitment to the philosophy of Juche, or self-reliance, as well as peaceful international cooperation. Senator Jan Muhammad Buladi and Mr. Javed Ansari also addressed the gathering, reflecting on the historical and diplomatic significance of the DPRK-Pakistan relationship. They lauded the resilience, determination, and unity of the North Korean people.
April 15 is celebrated as the most important public holiday in North Korea, marking the birthday of its late national founder. State media in Pyongyang published editorials on Tuesday reaffirming loyalty to the current leadership and commemorating the achievements of Kim Il Sung. While recent developments show North Korea increasing its military engagement with Russia, analysts note a decline in its traditionally close relationship with China, contributing to mounting economic challenges.
Despite these geopolitical dynamics, the Islamabad event served as a meaningful reminder of enduring international friendships. The well-organized ceremony was praised for its diplomatic warmth and the spirit of mutual respect that defined the gathering.
