Huawei ICT Competition is a great opportunity for university students to learn about Huawei and the industrial requirements student needs to secure job in Huawei. Huawei do Talent hunting through Huawei ICT Competition and provide opportunity to students that they prove their self-worthy. Every year Huawei arrange this mega event here in Pakistan with the collaboration of Huawei ICT Academies and other Pakistani Universities that are registered as Academy. The competition is a roadmap for the students to participate in Huawei ICT Global competition that Huawei later arrange at Huawei HQ, Shenzhen, China.
Huawei in collaboration with HEC initiated the project of establishing the Huawei ICT Academies in 2017. UET Taxila was among the first in Universities from Punjab province that have been selected and awarded Huawei ICT Academy. The academy is fully established and functional and offering its training programs to flourish the networking skills in students. So far Academy has trained more than 1000 students in the field of Data communication. In the last 6 years University of Engineering and Technology Taxila secured three times Excellent Academy Award, in 2019, 2020 and 2022, and secured 01-time Outstanding Academy Award in 2022. As Huawei Certified Instructor in Huawei ICT Competition 2022, Huawei Pakistan recognized my effort and given me Excellent Tutor Award in 2022.
Every year more than 12000 students participate from Pakistan and around 500 students participate in Huawei ICT Competition from University of Engineering and Technology Taxila. This year more than 750 students registered for Huawei ICT Competition 2023 in Network, Cloud and Computing Track. To aware students about the competition Huawei and University officials jointly arranged 7 different seminars, to guide and build awareness of the Competition.
The competition systematically shortlists talented students. Initially students get registered for the competition. Huawei open the learning space for all the students so they can learn courses of their relevant field on self-pace. Huawei then arrange an online preliminary exam where Huawei Officials screen out the students at first step and select the talented students for next round. Huawei then on their own expense arrange tutors that train students on their nearest premises to help them polish their selves for Huawei ICT Competition next round exam. After training, Huawei provide students an opportunity to certify free of cost so that they can prove that they are worthy to join any organization based on the requirement. Huawei offers free certification to these students in Datacom, Security, WLAN, AL, BigData, storage, openEuler, openGuass and many more fields during ICT Competition. Once student get certify, they become eligible for National Finals. In National Final exam, Huawei arranges written exam, lab and interviews of these students. After thorough evaluation Huawei awards best students with the gifts already announced at Huawei website. Huawei create the teams of these students and take them to Regional and Global Competitions on their own expense, provide these students and opportunity to network at international level and later on offer them job opportunities.
Huawei ICT Competition is a great opportunity and I think this changes the life of an ordinary students and convert him to an exceptional human being.
Dr. Zeshan Iqbal is Assistant Professor and a Director of Huawei ICT Academy at Department of Computer Science, University of Engineering and Technology Taxila. During his 24-year career, he taught in several Universities and published many research papers. He is a founder and Certified Trainer of Huawei ICT Academy, University of Engineering and Technology Taxila.
