ISLAMABAD: In a major development, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari will meet Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman today (Monday) to discuss the no-confidence motion against the PTI-led government, well-informed sources have revealed. Sources privy to the matter said that the crucial meeting between the two leaders will be held at Fazl’s residence.

Matters related to the no-trust motion against the PTI government, contacts with the government’s allied parties, and the country’s overall political situation will be discussed in the meeting. Following the meeting, a dinner will be hosted by Fazl in honour of Zardari, the sources added.

The meeting would discuss contacts with political groups including government allies in a bid for in-house change in the National Assembly, measures needed for setting agenda of an effective anti-government move and matters relating to bringing PPP close to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

The meeting came in the backdrop of another behind the door meeting of opposition leaders for the success of their no-trust move when Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif had met estranged PTI leader Jahangir Tareen two days back.

According to sources within PML-N privy to the development, during the meeting between Shehbaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen, the former sought latter’s cooperation for the no-trust move against Prime Minister Imran Khan.  “The meeting lasted for multiple hours and Shehbaz Sharif also offered to accommodate PTI leader in the next setup,” they said.

A day earlier, it was surfaced that President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Mian Shehbaz Sharif had sought support of Jahangir Tareen for no-confidence motion during a secret meeting. According to sources, the meeting between two leaders went on for several hours and Opposition Leader of National Assembly also offered Jahangir Tareen to work with PML-N even after no-confidence motion.
