Army Chief on Forefront for Pakistan Green Initiative ProgramThe agriculture sector is the backbone of human civilization, providing sustenance, economic stability, and the foundation for countless industries worldwide. From ancient times to the present day, agriculture has played a pivotal role in the development and progress of societies. As the global population continues to grow, the significance of agriculture becomes ever more evident, highlighting its crucial role in addressing food security, environmental sustainability, and economic prosperity.

The foremost and most obvious importance of the agriculture sector lies in its ability to produce food and ensure food security for a growing population. Without a well-functioning agricultural system, billions of people around the world would face chronic hunger and malnutrition. The sector produces a wide variety of crops and livestock that form the basis of our daily diets, providing essential nutrients and energy necessary for human survival and growth. Agriculture contributes significantly to the global economy. It is a major source of employment for billions of people, especially in developing countries where it remains the primary livelihood for rural communities. The sector’s activities span from farming and cultivation to processing, distribution, and marketing, generating employment opportunities throughout the supply chain. Furthermore, agriculture is a crucial component of international trade. Many countries rely on agricultural exports to boost their economies and foster international relationships. The agriculture sector contributes to foreign exchange earnings, allowing countries to import goods and services that they may not produce domestically. In many developing nations, rural areas heavily depend on agriculture for their economic development. By investing in agricultural infrastructure and technology, governments can empower rural communities, improving their living standards and providing avenues for economic growth. Access to modern agricultural techniques, credit facilities, and market linkages can uplift farmers and help alleviate poverty in rural regions. Agriculture is intrinsically linked to the environment, and sustainable farming practices are crucial for preserving natural resources for future generations. Sustainable agriculture focuses on efficient water management, soil conservation, biodiversity conservation, and reduced reliance on harmful chemicals. By adopting these practices, farmers can minimize their ecological footprint and ensure the long-term health of ecosystems.

Moreover, agriculture can contribute to mitigating climate change. Practices like agroforestry and conservation agriculture sequester carbon dioxide, helping to offset greenhouse gas emissions and combat global warming. The agriculture sector acts as a vital link between primary production and various downstream industries. The raw materials produced on farms form the foundation for food processing, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and various other industrial sectors. Robust agricultural productivity and supply chains bolster these industries and contribute to economic growth. Agriculture has come a long way from traditional farming methods to adopting cutting-edge technologies. Advancements in agricultural practices, precision farming, genetic engineering, and digital agriculture have significantly increased productivity and efficiency. Embracing innovation in agriculture is essential for meeting the challenges of food security in the face of a growing global population. The agriculture sector holds an indispensable place in our societies, encompassing far more than simply cultivating crops and rearing animals. It is a dynamic force that nourishes the world, drives economic growth, and supports the livelihoods of billions of people. As we confront the challenges of feeding a burgeoning population while safeguarding the environment, sustainable agricultural practices and innovation will be paramount. By recognizing and investing in the importance of the agriculture sector, we pave the way for a more secure, sustainable, and prosperous future for all.

Pakistan’s Army chief is showing keen interest in all national issues of Pakistan. He showed grave association towards resolution of economic and defense related issues of the country as well. Recently, General Michael Erik Kurilla, Commander United States (US) CENTCOM, called on General Syed Asim Munir, COAS. During the meeting matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and defense cooperation were discussed. Both reiterated the desire to further enhance bilateral relations in all fields. The visiting dignitary acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan Army’s successes in fight against terrorism and Pakistan’s continued efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region.

The Green Initiative programme has been launched recently. As per the programme, more than 4 million cultivable waste land will be cultivated to increase agricultural production, cut down import of edible oil and food items worth over $11 billion and thus make the country food secure. Under the initiative, smart agricultural practices and latest machinery will be introduced for reducing cost of production and inspiring local farmers to also adopt good agricultural practices. The government hopes to attract around $50 billion investment under the scheme. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the other day that friendly countries like China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc., were reluctant to give further loans to Pakistan but were ready to invest here provided there’s politically stability so that they could set up businesses, earn profit and bring prosperity to the local population during the process.

Army Chief has shown remarkable commitment in bringing agriculture revolution in the country. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir assured the people and the government of army’s full support for all the initiatives under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), including the launch the ‘Green Pakistan Initiative’. Addressing a seminar on agriculture and food security as the guest of honor, Gen Asim Munir praised the talents of the Pakistani nation, stressing the need for the people to contribute to the progress of the country together. The seminar was the sequel to the inaugurated Land Information Management System – Centre of Excellence (LIMS-COE). The ‘Green Pakistan initiative’ aims at enhancing food security, boosting exports and reducing agriculture-related imports. “We are all gathered here to make Pakistan green again, Allah has bestowed many blessings upon Pakistan,” the army chief told the seminar. “We are a talented nation, the only requirement is that we contribute to its development together,” he emphasized. “With full dedication and heart and soul to complete this stage, we assure all possible support for the economic development of Pakistan as an institution. Pakistan has to progress and no power in the world can stop it from progressing,” he added. The army chief asked the nation not to despair, as he referred to a verse from the holy Quran. He stated that the Muslims hold on to patience [Sabr] when face any difficulty, and offer thanks [Shukr] when they receive bounties. The ‘National Seminar on Agriculture and Food Security’, at the Jinnah Convention Centre, was attended by foreign dignitaries, potential investors and experts from UK, Italy, Spain, China, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and other countries.

Recently, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir has said it has been decided to steer Pakistan out of the crisis. Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Khanewal Model Agriculture Farm, the army chief said the armed forces are proud to serve its nation. The Khanewal farm, which was formally opened recetly, comprises 2,250 acres. Army Chief said that the army is from the people and the people from the army, and it has been decided that Pakistan will be taken out of the current crisis. He said Pakistanis are a proud and talented nation and through their untiring efforts, they will throw away the begging bowl. Referring to the natural resources of the country, he said Allah Almighty has bestowed Pakistan with all the blessings and no power in the world can stop it from developing.

The army chief said Pakistan will definitely achieve the destination of agricultural revolution and model farms like the one inaugurated in Khanewal will be established all over the country. He said the state is like a mother, the relationship between the people and the state is one of love and respect. He said national security and economy go hand in hand as an economy without security and security without economy is unimaginable. The army chief read a couplet of Allama Iqbal to stress the importance of national development. He said the small farmers would benefit from the Green Initiative, whose scope would be extended throughout Pakistan.

Readers, it’s heartening to see the Army and its head on forefront for this great cause which ultimately will lead to development and progress of the country. The day is not too far when the goals of excellence will be achieved in result of these sincere efforts.
