Baku :The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva at the online conference “Digitalization of the Ombudsman: New Mechanisms for Ensuring and Protecting Human Rights and Freedoms” organized on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Ombudsman Institute of the Republic of Uzbekistan and International Human Rights Day made a report.
The Ombudsman’s Office told AZERTAC that the event was attended by ombudsmen from a number of foreign countries, heads of national human rights institutions and international experts, as well as representatives of influential international organizations.
The Ombudsman began his speech by congratulating the Ombudsman of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Muhammadiyev on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the institution.
In her report, Sabina Aliyeva noted the importance of the application of modern technologies in the protection of human rights. He spoke about his work since the first days of his election as Ombudsman to ensure human rights and ensure faster reception of appeals in the institution, including the establishment and operation of a single 916 Call Center.
Speaking about the work done in our country to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, the Ombudsman informed about the activities to ensure the rights of vulnerable groups, especially during the special quarantine regime announced in the country. It was noted that the Ombudsman issued special statements taking into account the recommendations of the UN Special Rapporteurs on the effective protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, children and migrants during the pandemic. In addition, during the pandemic, the live reception of citizens was suspended, but the participants were informed that the online reception of appeals continues.
Noting the Victory Parade held in our country on the occasion of the end of the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, which lasted for almost 30 years, the Ombudsman stressed that all four known UN resolutions were implemented in this way.
Noting that Armenia used banned weapons against the civilian population during the war, the Ombudsman said that he carried out fact-finding missions in the areas of destruction and prepared reports based on the evidence obtained and sent them to the relevant international organizations.
In addition, the Ombudsman shared his experience with the participants on the effective use of information technology in the protection of human rights and freedoms during the war.
