An international symposium on the legal review of the Khojaly tragedy was held
Baku, February 27, An international online symposium on “Legal review of the Khojaly tragedy: UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide” was organized by the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora and the Faculty of Law of Baku State University.

The State Committee told  that the symposium dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was attended by scientists from Azerbaijan, Turkey, the United States, Sweden and Kazakhstan, about 100 representatives of the diaspora and active young listeners.
The event, which began with the commemoration of the victims of the Khojaly genocide, was opened by Deputy Chairman of the State Committee Elshad Aliyev, who spoke in detail about the importance of the symposium, its national and human nature.
The symposium was moderated by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Baku State University, Doctor of Law, Professor Amir Aliyev.
Then Professor Amir Aliyev’s “Khojaly genocide in the field of international law”, Head of the Department of Legal History of the Faculty of Law, Istanbul University, Turkey, Doctor of Law, Professor Fethi Gedikli’s “Importance of legal approach to the Khojaly genocide”, researcher of the Institute of Global Political Studies, Malmö University, Sweden, Doctor of Law , Professor Kamal Aliyev’s “Khojaly genocide in the context of international humanitarian law”, Head of the Department of International General Law, Baku State University, Faculty of Law, Professor Rustam Mammadov’s “Organization of Diaspora Activities and International Law in Recognition of the Crime of Genocide”, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Director of the Institute of Law, President of the International Law Association of Kazakhstan,“Khojaly tragedy is an international crime against the Azerbaijani people: political and legal aspects” by Professor Aron Salimgerei, “International responsibility of the Armenian state for the Khojaly genocide” by Professor Javid Abdullazade, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of Ankara University, Turkey, “Human Rights and Information Law” The lectures on “Genocide and violated rights of IDPs” by the teacher of UNESCO department, doctor of philosophy in law Mohammad Guluzadeh were heard.The lectures on “Genocide and Violated Rights of Internally Displaced Persons” were given by Mohammad Guluzadeh, a lecturer at the UNESCO Department of Human Rights and Information Law of the Baku State University, Doctor of Philosophy in Law.The lectures on “Genocide and Violated Rights of Internally Displaced Persons” were given by Mohammad Guluzadeh, a lecturer at the UNESCO Department of Human Rights and Information Law of the Baku State University, Doctor of Philosophy in Law.
In his speech, Turkish professor Fethi Gedikli stressed the importance of the recognition of the Khojaly genocide by the international community and the prosecution of the current leadership of Armenia, which committed this crime in the relevant international courts.
Kazakh professor Aron Salimgerei said in his speech that Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan were not based on historical facts and were completely unfounded. He also spoke about the global importance of punishing Armenian criminal groups who have committed serious crimes against the Azerbaijani people on the basis of international law and the tasks ahead in this direction.
Other reports suggest that the Khojaly tragedy, which took place on the night of February 25-26, 1992, was a continuation of the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide carried out by Armenian chauvinists against Azerbaijanis for nearly two centuries. It was emphasized that it was a bloody page. The need for international responsibility against the Armenian state in this direction was stressed.
Concluding the symposium, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee Elshad Aliyev thanked the participants for their valuable reports and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in this regard
