Islamabad: The Human Development Foundation (HDF) hosted a comprehensive journalist workshop titled “Harmful Effects of Tobacco and Nicotine” at Movenpick Hotel, Islamabad. The event brought together 45 journalists from print, digital, and broadcast media of Islamabad. The workshop was supported by key compaign partner organizations, reinforcing a multi-sectoral commitment to advancing tobacco control in Pakistan. As an organization committed to public health, HDF works tirelessly for the betterment of vulnerable communities—especially those who cannot help themselves—by advocating for stronger policies, raising awareness, and promoting healthier futures for all Pakistanis.

A central highlight of the workshop was the official launch and presentation of HDF’s latest report on Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDs), which provides an in-depth analysis of the rising prevalence of e-cigarettes and similar products in Pakistan. The report explored the marketing strategies targeting youth, the regulatory gaps, and the potential health risks posed by these emerging nicotine products. Through a detailed presentation, HDF experts walked participants through key findings, data insights, and policy recommendations, aiming to empower journalists with credible information for responsible reporting and public awareness campaigns.

In addition to the report launch, the workshop featured engaging discussions on the urgent need to strengthen tobacco control policies. Speakers addressed the harmful impact of nicotine and tobacco on individual health, particularly among youth, and emphasized the socioeconomic burden caused by the unchecked use of tobacco products in the country. Participants were encouraged to play an active role in shaping public discourse and holding relevant stakeholders accountable through accurate and informed journalism.
