Peshawar :President of the Markezi Tanzeem e Tajran Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Malik Mehr Elahi, President of Peshawar Traders Chamber Gulam Bilal Javid, and other members stated that last night heavy machinery provided by the district administration was used for decorating and embellishing. The closure of traffic from both sides of the Qissa Khawani market for this purpose was strongly opposed. Traders from related markets and other associated areas were filled with waves of sorrow and frustration, feeling that the administration has become their enemy during these blessed days. If traffic is halted for work, it will not only affect the Qissa Khawani market but also the livelihoods of traders in related markets. The district administration must ensure the protection of traders in the Qissa Khawani market and other related areas so that this decoration and embellishment project can be completed peacefully and in stages. Mayor Peshawar Haji Zubair Ali had assured that traders’ businesses would not suffer, and this work would be completed through mutual agreement. Construction work will take place after Eid ul-Fitr. However, the district administration has disregarded even Mayor Peshawar Haji Zubair Ali’s assurance. We appeal to the higher authorities of our provincial government and district administration to complete this project while addressing the concerns of traders regarding decoration and embellishment. Otherwise, traders will be forced to protest to protect their rights, and the responsibility for all circumstances will lie with the district administration.
