International Mountain Day Celebrated

 Islamabad: Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) held Eco Hike at the eve of International Mountain Day at Margallah Hills on Traile – 5. The students from different educational institutions participated in this Hike.

 The participants were briefed about the importance of mountains. Mr. Abu Zafar Sadiq, President, ACP highlighted the importance of environment care in mountain regions of Pakistan for empowering the women of remote regions of mountain areas of Pakistan as their livelihoods are Dependentupon Mountains.

 Stressing the importance of mountain sports tourism, he allured youth of the country to engage themselves in outdoor healthy pursuits especially in mountain areas of Pakistan. The President, ACP said that activities to celebrate International Mountain Day shall continue throughout the  At the occasion, Karrar Haidri, Secretary ACP, Mr. Ayaz Shigri, Vice President, Rana Mukhtar, Manager, PTDC, Dr. Ikram Ch., Director, Punjab College of Commerce and Mian Ather Jameel from Riphah Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Art also addressed the participants.

They all stressed the importance of mountains and engagement of youth for sustainable mountain sports tourism. The participating institutions were presented shields and all the participants were given certificates at the end of the hike. 

 Remember that ‘International Mountain Day Celebrated Today on 11 November. International Mountain Day was celebrated today to increase public awareness of the value of mountains to both life and climate. The United Nations General Assembly established an international mountain day to recognize the importance of mountains. Every year, this day is observed with a specific theme and the theme of this year is ‘Women Move Mountains.’ Women play a key role in mountains’ environmental protection and social and economic development. They are often the primary managers of mountain resources, guardians of biodiversity, keepers of traditional knowledge, custodians of local culture, and experts in traditional medicine.
