QUETTA : An Improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on Sunday while the Army was conducting an intelligence-based clearance operation in Kahan area of Balochistan resulting in the martyrdom of five army men including a captain and four sepoys.
Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), in its press release, stated “Captain Fahad along with four other brave sons of soil Lance Naik Imtiaz, Sepoy Asghar, Sepoy Mehran and Sepoy Shamoon have embraced Shahadat, laying their lives in defence of the motherland against an externally perpetrated threat of terrorism”.
“The operation was underway in Kahan area of Balochistan since 24 Dec 2022”, the statement added.
Earlier, a soldier was martyred and two others injured during heavy exchange of fire with terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Sambaza area of Zhob, Balochistan.
In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said an operation had been initiated in the area for the last 96 hours to deny terrorists use of few suspected routes to move across Pak-Afghan Border to sneak into Khyber Pakhtunkwa along interprovincial boundary and target citizens and security forces.
“As a result of continuous Surveillance and sanitisation of the area, a group of the Terrorists was intercepted in early hours today. During the establishment of blocking positions to deny them escape routes, terrorists opened fire onto the Security Forces”, reads the statement.
During the gunfight, one terrorist was killed, while Sepoy Haq Nawaz embraced martyrdom and two other soldiers got injured. Terrorists were supported by their facilitators from across the border as well through fire, it said.
“The sanitization operation continues in the area to apprehend remaining perpetrators,” the ISPR said.
Political leaders have lauded the anti-terrorism efforts of the army. Former president Asif Ali Zardari said our army personnel were leaving no stone unturned to avert the peace-derailing attempts by terrorists. “They are our hero”, he added.
Minister for External Affairs Bilawal Bhutto also paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificeed their lives in keeping the country safe. While condemning the attacks, the FM said the sons of the soil were expending their energies in keeping the terrorism at distance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the nation was paying tributes and respects to the five soldiers who embraced martyrdom in Balochistan.
In a tweet on social media platform Twitter, he said, “Heart-wrenching news from Balochistan about the martyrdom of five soldiers including an Army Captain.”
“The nation pays its tributes & respects to our heroes who laid down their lives for Pakistan. The perpetrators of terrorism will be brought to justice. Let there be no mistake about it,” he added.
President Dr Arif Alvi also paid tribute to soldiers of the Pakistan army who were martyred during a clearance operation of the security forces in Kahan, Balochistan.
In a statement, the President condoled with the families of the martyred and lauded the martyrs for their services for the defence of the country.He appreciated the efforts of the security forces for the eradication of terrorism from the country.
He prayed for grant of the highest ranks to the martyrs in Jannah.
