MOSCOW \u2013 August 22 marks Russia\u2019s National Flag Day, established by a Presidential Decree in 1994. The day honors one of Russia\u2019s official state symbols, which, alongside the national emblem and anthem, represents the country\u2019s sovereignty, independence, and the continuity of its multinational people.The Russian tricolour also serves today as a symbol of protection and the future. In the special military operation zone, servicemen raise the white-blue-red flag over liberated settlements.<\/p>\n

It became the national flag in 1896, ahead of Nicholas II\u2019s coronation.
