ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and President of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, declared that rebellion against the Armed Forces is an unforgivable crime, demanding exemplary public punishments including execution in public squares for those inciting hatred against Pakistan’s military.<\/p>\n
Addressing a high-profile press conference in Islamabad, the veteran Kashmiri leader provided a comprehensive overview of the ongoing socio-political unrest in Azad Kashmir, tracing its evolution from legitimate economic grievances into a dangerous confrontation targeting national integrity.<\/p>\n
“At the outset, I expressed deep concerns regarding a potential confrontation,” he said. “While the public\u2019s economic demands were entirely justified, the strategy employed by certain elements seemed explicitly designed to force a clash with the state.”<\/p>\n
The Muslim Conference chief highlighted that both the Government of Pakistan and the AJK Government demonstrated immense flexibility and goodwill by granting extensive, unusually lenient concessions. These actions included accepting the majority of public demands and suspending legal cases alongside 170 FIRs.<\/p>\n
Sardar Attique lamented that the movement did not remain restricted to economic relief, and instead, it expanded into complex constitutional disputes, targeting the 1974 Interim Constitution Act and the voting rights of refugees. Despite proposals for Track II and backdoor negotiations to defuse tensions, elements of violence ultimately hijacked the movement.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on his family\u2019s 94-year-long political legacy rooted strictly in peaceful agitation, Sardar Attique expressed profound grief over the recent loss of 17 lives and various violent incidents, particularly highlighting clashes in Rawalakot and neighboring areas.<\/p>\n
Lauding Pakistan\u2019s security forces as “among the best defensive forces in the world,” the former AJK Premier emphasized that the relationship between Kashmiris and the Pakistan Army predates the inception of Pakistan itself. He cited the historical precedent of the “Qayyum Brigade”, the first military brigade of Pakistan which was raised under Kashmiri leadership.<\/p>\n
“The foundation of the Pakistan Army is built on Unity, Faith, and Discipline, which is why enemy forces have consistently failed to harm it,” Sardar Attique stated.<\/p>\n
He added that Pakistan\u2019s military leadership has always placed absolute trust in Kashmiris, evidenced by the appointment of Kashmiri generals to highly sensitive operational commands, including the Rawalpindi and the Gujranwala Corps. Globally, he noted, the Pakistan Army commands immense prestige, holding the sacred responsibility of protecting the Haramain Sharifain, and gaining international acclaim for its stabilizing role in preventing global conflicts.<\/p>\n
Sardar Attique firmly reminded critics that Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan were not secured through diplomatic efforts, but were liberated through the blood of Kashmiris fighting under the banner of Islam and the ideology of Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Condemning attempts to defame the broader Kashmiri freedom struggle, he clarified that 99.99% of the population of Jammu and Kashmir remains unconditionally aligned with the ideology of accession to Pakistan. “For us, self-determination has only ever meant one thing: freedom from Indian occupation,” he stressed.<\/p>\n
While emphasizing that the protection of innocent civilians caught in the current unrest is paramount, he affirmed that elements damaging public property and attacking security forces will no longer be tolerated. Backed by the collective mandate of the All Parties Conference (APC) and supported by the security apparatus, the AJK Government has resolutely decided to restore the writ and authority of the state.<\/p>\n
Terming the fringe demands of disruptive elements such as removing the mandatory oath of loyalty to Pakistan from the AJK Constitution as a direct assault on national sovereignty, Sardar Attique demanded that the law move swiftly to separate the innocent from the guilty, handing down severe punishments to permanently eliminate subversive networks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
