Says Sialkot tragedy hanged our heads in shame
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan Monday chaired a meeting to review the overall security situation in the country wherein the participants viewed that individuals and mobs could not be allowed to take the law into their hands. The meeting was attended by Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Jawed Bajwa, National Security Advisor Dr. Moeed Yousaf, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar and senior military and civil officers.The meeting expressed serious concern over the cruel act of the killing of Sri Lankan national Priyantha Diyawadanage in Sialkot and expressed the resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The participants viewed that incidents like the lynching of a Sri Lankan national could not be tolerated. Therefore, a comprehensive strategy shall be implemented to curb such incidents and strict punishments to all the perpetrators shall be ensured, they resolved. The meeting also praised the bravery and courage of Malik Adnan who endangered his own life to save Priyantha Diyawadanage. The meeting also conveyed the deepest condolences to the family of late Priyantha Diyawadanage.
Prime Minister Khan said that the Sialkot tragedy has hanged our heads in shame. Prime Minister directed to ensure that those involved in the incident get exemplary punishments and justice is done. On the other hand, Sri Lankan High Commissioner said that Sialkot incident is very tragic but will not affect relations between both countries.
According to details, a delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central leaders visited the Sri Lankan embassy and expressed their grief over the senseless killing of a Sri Lankan manager in Sialkot. The PTI delegation expressed its condolences to the Lankan authorities. Meanwhile, the body of Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara, who was brutally killed by a mob in Sialkot on Friday, has flown to his home country.
The body was shifted to the airport for departure in an ambulance. Higher officials of the Punjab government were also present at the airport. It merits mention that 13 prime suspects involved in killing Sri Lankan citizen Priyantha Kumara in Sialkot over alleged blasphemy have been produced before Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) today (Monday). During the proceedings, the court has approved 15-day physical remand of the suspects on the appeal of police officers. The security personnel have launched a series of raids and so far arrested 131 suspects including 26 prime suspects.
