A Pleasant meeting with DC Jhelum Syed Meesam  Abbas

Islamabad: As I set out to meet the Deputy Commissioner of Jhelum,   Syed Meesam Abbas, a number of typical assumptions clouded my thoughts. I anticipated long waiting hours, protocol hurdles, perhaps having to submit a written request via a peon, and even the possibility of not being granted an audience at all.

However, as I arrived at the DC office accompanied by my colleagues, Mr. Adil Iqbal Malik and Mr. Ziyan Abbas Aurah, I was met with a completely different and refreshing reality. There was no guard at the entrance, no long queues, and no intimidating barriers. The office doors were open for the public — quite literally and symbolically.

What surprised us even more was that Mr. Meesam Abbas rose from his seat to personally greet us with a warm handshake and an affable smile. His manner was not only courteous but also deeply respectful, reflecting a genuine commitment to public service.

During the time we spent in his office, we observed that his behavior was consistently kind and humble toward every visitor. There was no trace of arrogance or bureaucratic aloofness. He listened to people’s grievances attentively and issued necessary directives without delay. Many citizens were taking photos with him, and he accommodated them all with the same cheerful grace.

I discussed with the DC Jhelum the long-standing issue of the Lillah-Jhelum Road construction. He informed me that a meeting had already taken place with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and work on all major sections — including from Jalalpur Sharif to Misri Morr and from Jalalpur to Pindi said pur  — is expected to commence by July or August, InshaAllah.

Additionally, I raised concerns regarding illegal encroachments on the road stretching from Pinnanwal to Chak Danial , i ( Teliyaan Wali Gali )a key link road to Kukar Pindi, Daulatpur, and Pindi Bhikh). Mr. Abbas assured us that the matter was already on record and action would be taken shortly to resolve it.

Witnessing Mr.Meesam  Abbas’s professionalism, humility, and integrity, I was reminded of an old saying: “A true Syed is never arrogant, never unjust, and always God-fearing.” These words seemed to perfectly define the man we met.

In a country where red tape and indifference often hinder administrative efficiency, officers like Syed Meesam  Abbas offer a breath of fresh air. Their dedication and openness inspire hope that public service can still be noble and people-centered.

May Allah Almighty protect such honest officers, and may their service bring continued progress to districts like Jhelum.
